The Greensboro, NC show was throwing some pretty good vibes on Sunday, 8-21, when Judge Roberta Davies finished BOTH her Winners Dog and her Winners Bitch with a 3 point major!
Seventh Heaven Great Danes is proud to announce our latest champion "Ch Seventh Heavens Stimulus Package", also known as Griffin.
Griffin finished with 3 majors, and let it not go unnoticed that he also received 4 prestigious major RWD's at Specialty shows under Breeder judges.
He is champion #29 for his sire, Ch Maitau's Top Billing, ROM and wishes his sisters and his brother well on the race to send Topper into the GDCA's Hall of Fame as a top producing Great Dane. Notably, Griffin and his siblings are the 8th consecutive generation of GDCA's Registry of Merit.
Griffin was Breeder/Owner/Handled by Glenn, and it's hard to tell which of the two look more like a banty rooster, given the "puffed up chests"!!!
A special thank you goes to the ringside spectators, many of whom needed to finish their own dogs on Sunday, who exploded in cheers for Griffin and Glenn as Judge Davies pointed.
Isn't that how it's supposed to be?
And a huge congratulations to BIS BISS Ch Bayside Creeksides Just Tina for Sunday's Winners Bitch, Tinas 10th AKC champion, crowning her as GDCA's newest Hall of Fame Producer!

8/26/10
GDR is working on a project for the Top Producing Danes. If you have a dog that has produced 25 or more AKC Champions or a Bitch that has produced more than 8 AKC Champions please email us your dogs name along with an AKC printout of his Champions names and a picture of him/her  gdr@greatdanereview.com

As many of you know, Jeff had an accident and has suffered burns. The family is not asking for donations but many have expressed the desire to send a donation to help out with the enormous medical bills they are about to face, You may do so via PayPal directly to them at jpldane@aol. com Even with good insurance these days, what is left over to come out of pocket from something like this will be astronomical. I can't think of a family more deserving of help or that have more friends and acquaintances then Jeff and Patrice and I know they will appreciate and put to good use all donations. I have seen people mention sending monetary help so after discussing with a family member we decided on a couple of ways to do so.
One being to Pay-Pal to Jeff at the jpldane @ aol .com If you choose to use PayPal, be sure to check the box that says 'GIFT'.  Paypal link
The other way is to mail them a check to their home. Be sure to also write 'Gift' in the memo.

AKC Survey
Mon Jul 12, 2010 8:20 pm (PDT)

The link below will take you to the survey.

The American Kennel Club Board and Staff are currently considering ways to
attract and retain participants in the conformation sport. The objective is
to consider changes which will result in a better experience for Clubs,
exhibitors, and the general public. The goals are to improve entries, level
of participation, and, in turn, the financial performance of our show giving
Clubs. The information you provide will be summarized and be presented to
the Board of Directors in August.

As active members of the dog fancy you understand the challenges the
conformation sport is facing and we are sure you have ideas on how to
improve our sport. What we seek are ideas.ideas on how to improve the
conformation show, thoughts on how to attract new people into the sport, and
ways to attract the general public to shows so they can learn what purebred
dogs are and why purposely bred dogs are important.

We have divided this request into 3 parts.shows, new exhibitors, and the
general public. We are asking you to provide you ideas.as brief and
concise as possible in these three areas. You do not have to complete all
three sections.just the area(s) where you have a point of view. While
contact information is not required it would be helpful in case follow up is
needed to better understand an idea. All input will reported anonymously
and it is recognized, due to the short timeframe, that your views are not
necessarily those of your Club.

The Marmaduke Movie Educational Effort

Many Dane fanciers have expressed concern about the publicity Great Danes will receive from the release of the “Marmaduke” movie, scheduled for release on June 4th, 2010 . Some feel the movie will have a detrimental effect on the breed. The worry is twofold—people may impulse-purchase a Dane without fully researching whether the breed is appropriate for their lifestyle (and pocketbook), and less-than-scrupulous breeders will take advantage of the free breed publicity and mass produce “little Marmaduke” puppies.

Instead of focusing on any possible negative aspects the movie may have on the breed, one could consider this as an educational effort, and a great way to get information out about the breed to the general public. Whether as an individual, rescue group or Dane club, YOU can help provide information and education on the Great Dane breed.

There are many ways this can be done. Below is basic outline of ideas that might be used.

Education at the movie theater with or without a dog
• As soon as possible, contact your local movie theater manager and ask about the possibility of having a table in the lobby or outside the entrance. Have at least two people available to answer questions and pass out literature. If you are allowed to bring a dog, be sure he or she has the temperament to deal with crowds of children.
• Suggestions for props at the table:
    - Bring two empty 40 lb bags of dog food stuffed with newspaper to show how much they eat.
     - Have a couple of empty pill bottles, one Dane size and one for a
small dog along with a print out of the difference in costs for even
routine things at the vet.
    - Bring a few destroyed items to show the damage a Dane can do. You may also download the “Danes of Destruction” poster from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MarmadukeMovieEducationalEffort.
   - Also available on the site is a handout “Safety With Dogs”, giving instruction on the proper way to greet dogs. While this is geared more for distribution at a dog show, it may be helpful as a handout.
Be “out there”
• Clubs and rescues might want to consider posting their website address at online sites such as Craigslist. A simple sentence: “Did you enjoy the Marmaduke movie? Are you considering adding a Dane to your household? Be informed before you buy!” Contact (insert info) for information on Great Danes to help you find out if this is the right breed for you.
• Contact your local radio and/or TV station and see if they would be interested in doing an interview with a Dane-savvy person.
• Post information contact cards at local pets stores, veterinarians offices, groomers, boarding kennels, dog parks and other doggy places.
• Contact your local kennel club and ask if you can have an informational table out during Dane judging. Publicize the event in your local paper and online classifieds.
• If you are involved in the educational field, you may want to see if you can do a presentation, with or without a dog.
Literature to consider
• “Discover The Great Dane”, by the Great Dane Club of New England and offered by the Great Dane Club of America for educational purposes is an excellent booklet, very nicely done. There is no charge for the booklets (just reimburse for postage). Booklets can be obtained by contacting Dianne Powers at diannepowers@comcast.net.
• Many sites have excellent literature that can be printed off and used. Sights to check out include:

Resource site
• A yahoo group site, “Marmaduke Movie Educational Effort” has been set up. Anyone may join and this site will allow people to download educational information that can then be printed for distribution as handouts. Anyone can join this group without moderator permission, but it does not allow for discussion. To join, go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MarmadukeMovieEducationalEffort. If you have educational literature you would like to add, please email the moderator at
 MarmadukeMovieEducationalEffort@yahoogroups.com after joining the group.
